Top: Old news: July 1999
- Lunar Impact - The Lunar Prospector has
crashed into the Moon as planned, to see if there's water up there. Details should appear soon.
- The Hitchhiker's Guide movie - Here's a nice interview with Douglas Adams about the movie of The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy coming in 2000. (Looka!)
- Monty Python Speaks - CNN has put the first chapter of the new Monty Python book, "Monty Python Speaks", online. A
must-read if you're a Python fan! (Slashdot)
- Penguin Mints - Soon i'll finally get a (very nicely designed) tin of those Penguin peppermints thanks to Copyleft
and my credit card.
- Sample guide - Marsel has started a sample guide for (Detroit) techno records.
It is not as big as the Encyclopaedia Breakannica yet of course, but there are already some
surprising entries to be found.
- Amiga Pics - Amiga.org has some pictures of the new Amiga. Looks pretty good, but the
site is quite slow right now, probably due to the Slashdot Effect. (Slashdot)
- New weblog - Bruce Perens of Debian fame has started a weblog called Technocrat using the
open source software package Squishdot. (The Stuffed Dog)
- Javascript kiddie - This guy knows his Javascripts and
uses it in ways i've never seen before. Very original and definately worth a visit.
(Sikkema)
- MP3.com also launched IPO - You may have already heard it, but as expected MP3.com went public wednesday and the shares did very well. This also gives me a
chance to plug our page on
MP3.com here.
- Springer may run for Senate - If you thought an actor as president was a bad idea, then this bit in Salon will make you weep.
- Be IPO - Be's Initial Public Offering was launched
today. 6 million common shares at a price of $6 = $36 million. Perhaps they can now
afford to write drivers for my video card.
- How to Toilet-Train Your Cat - I wonder if i can learn Koffie to do this.
Probably not.
- Ice Cream - It was very warm and humid here today, so this site, and this one as well, is like food porn to me right now. Very
hot...
- bo2k pranks - Back Orifice 2000 can offer a lot of fun as this unsuspecting web cam owner came to discover.
- Yaris - Later this week i'm getting a new car from work: a Toyota Yaris. The dashboard is very
cool, much cooler than on this picture. And talking about cool, it also has AC!
- World Wide Whois - This Whois tool is very
handy, perhaps almost as good as the command line interface. Just one of the many
nifty Geektools.
- Caffeinated Soft Drinks - This
very nice (but somwhat old) article about caffeinated soft drinks can be found on
Dwelling. Personally i
really like Mountain Dew, but
unfortunatly it isn't for sale here in The Netherlands.
- New Plaid album - The new Plaid album, "Rest Proof Clockwork", should be out now. The Warp Records site has some nice Flash animations,
Real Audio and a Radio mix online.
- Shake it! - If you want to give your browser a little exercise, go here.
- Enter the weblog - Push and Portals are some past day internet hypes, but here's a new one:
weblogs. You can read all about this new phenomenon here and here. Some good examples are Camworld, Robot Wisdom, Scripting News and Sikkema op het Net (Dutch).
- Mozilla M8 out - A new release of Mozilla, the future of Netscape browsing, is available now for Linux,
MacOS, Windows and BeOS(!).
- Tiniest web server - Once again the record for the smallest web server has been broken. Check out
the IPic, an
implementation of a TCP/IP stack on a on a PIC processor. You can start a hosting center
in your pocket with a few of these.
- South Park warning - The ChildCare Action Project (US) warns us about the upcoming South Park movie, "another movie
straight from the smoking pits of Hell". Sounds good! Found this link on Slashdot.org.
- Firecracker Give Away - X10.com is giving away a
total amount of 1 million US dollars worth of Firecracker home automation tools
for free to readers of freshmeat.net. Only
for US and Canada citizens i'm afraid.
- New features - Thanks to some cool new features in bk2site, the software i use to generate this site, i'm now able to offer bits
of news here. So, if you have any news, please send it to me. Your contributions are very welcome!
